Matched tells the story of what happens when two young singles, Alex (Andrea Bordeaux) and Hugo (Jean Elie), decide to meet up for a date in a very unconventional setting. The short film, backdropped by the title track “Matched”, the latest to be released by h2the (nèe Erez Safar), serves a dual purpose of being a cinematic narrative and a moody music video, whose visual style and energetic sound complement one another. Matched is produced by h2the and Andrea Bordeaux, directed by Stewart Yost, written by Moshe Lehrer and edited by Danny Reams.
“Matched” is a follow up to h2the’s previous work, titled, “High on You” (video of the same name), which was nominated for The Loeries in both the Music Video and Film Craft – Writing categories, taking home the gold in the Music Video category.
h2the, who just premiered his latest track on Spotify’s official Fresh Finds playlist, merges 80s synths and layered beats, brought to life through dynamic visuals and sound. The Village Voice described his productions as “adventurous and banging” while 2DOPEBOYZ and Vibe Magazine’s allhiphop.com have also noted h2the’s rap flips of 80′s inspired sonics. “Matched” blends future-hop with retro synths, floating through an ethereal space with vocals to match.
Andrea Bordeaux, also serving as a producer of the short, portrays Alex, the female lead. Bordeaux, who has been working as an actress since 2010, has numerous television and film credits including, most recently, a season long arc on global juggernaut NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS), as well as guest starring roles on Dynasty (CW), Criminal Minds (CBS), Bones (FOX), and many others. Bordeaux is also a writer and women’s advocate. Much of her interest in playing Alex was due to her love of strong, irreverent female characters.
Hugo, the male lead, is played by Jèan Elie, a Haitian American actor/producer. Elie rose to recognition as an actor for playing Yves Durand in the 2017 limited drama series American Crime (ABC), before attaining his most recent and prominent role as Issa Rae’s brother, Ahmal Dee, on HBO’s critically acclaimed comedy series, Insecure. His numerous other credits include BET holiday drama film Throwback Holiday, horror film The Final Wish, and digital series Giants, Rider, and Black Girl in a Big Dress. Elie’s voiceover credits include work on the animated series Alvin and the Chipmunks.
SHE Street, the Movement Artist hailing from from Memphis, TN, makes her acting debut as Mathilde, the vibrant and unpredictable friend of Alex. SHE has spent the last 8 years in LA teaching and working professionally. She’s the founder of the all female company “THECouncil” & her credits include working with music artists such as Missy Elliott, Pharrell, Chris Brown, Kanye West and more.
The director, Stewart Yost, is no stranger to musical narratives, having worked with many incredible music artists such as Big Boi, Ty Dolla $ign, Wiz Khalifa, Waka Flocka Flame, & Karmin. He has also worked in commercials with brands such as Levis, Kahlùa, AT&T, Stella Artois, Facebook, and Golden Voice. In the narrative world, his most recent work includes an unnamed Netflix series set for 2020 release. Stewart is also in works to create and direct a new Psychological thriller called “Choose.” A video game designer turned serial killer, Kami, puts a Black professional female gamer, Auggie, through a “real life” video game, in a chance to avenge her parents killed unjustly at the hands of a white cop when she was a child.
Moshe Lehrer, the writer of Matched, was born in Montreal, Canada in a small suburb that once had the distinction of having the highest median age of any city in Canada. Since moving to Los Angeles, he has developed comedy projects around town, working with Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Davis Entertainment, Macari/Edelstein, and Contrafilm, among others. He also created and produced a web series for Vuguru and Stan Lee’s World of Heroes called Chatroom of Solitude.
Danny Reams, raised on a healthy dose of Terry Gilliam and The Twilight Zone, is a creative/editor in the independent film and commercial world. As an editor, Danny has recently collaborated on branded content with Vouge, i-D Magazine, VICE and Levi’s. He’s gained a reputation for a strong sense of engaging storytelling with some of the worlds best brands and independent production companies. His fingerprints can also be seen in the music video world for artists like Elton John and The PIXIES. His latest feature film, Along for the Ride, a documentary about Dennis Hopper produced by Forest Whitaker’s Significant Productions is now available on Hulu, digital platforms, and select screenings worldwide.
